When you want to attend the eye hospital we advise that you come with someone who knows you well or who supports you. You may need this person to take notes about what you may be told at your appointment. The person may need to talk with you if you are worried; they may need to escort you home if you have had treatment.

What things to be known ?

Cataract

Cataract is clouding of the lens of the eye, which impedes the passage of light. Although most cases of cataract are related to the aging process, occasionally children can be born with the condition, or a cataract may develop after eye injuries, inflammation, and some other eye diseases.

Pink / Red eye

Pinkeye, also called conjunctivitis, is redness and swelling of the thin tissue lining the eyelids and the white part of the eye. Pinkeye is common among children, but may occur at any age. It is most often caused by a virus, which can be easily spread to other people. Other common causes of pinkeye include bacterial infection and allergies. One or both eyes may be affected. Pinkeye is usually mild and goes away within a few days with treatment.

Dry Eye

Dry eyes occur when the eyes do not produce enough tears to lubricate the eye. Symptoms include pain, itching, redness, blurry vision, and more. Causes may include aging, medication side effects, diseases, and eye structure problems. Treatments involve eye drops, medications, and surgery.

Stye

A stye is an inflamed oil gland or hair follicle on the eyelid. It may occur along the lash line (external) or under the eyelid (internal). Both are swollen, red, and painful, but external styes usually do not last long. Styes are caused by bacteria that normally exist harmlessly on the skin of the eye. Styes often do not require treatment other than warm compresses, but for recurring styes, doctors may recommend an antibiotic. Surgery may sometimes be used to drain a stye.
